Summit MTB is a registered British Cycling Go Ride club and has achieved Clubmark status. Clubmark is Sport Englands cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections dedicated to encouraging young people to improve their talents.


Activities for young riders provided by Summit MTB are coaching sessions plus youth only rides and races. Young membersare required to be able to ride a mountain bike fitted with off-road tyres and use their gears. Riders aged under 16 can join the club as individuals for a subscription of just 10 or as part of a family membership, with parents/guardians costing £35.

Coaching sessions

These are held on seven Saturdays from 27th March to 23rd October on our XC mountain bike race course in Lotts Wood.

 



Coaching focuses on improving handling, braking and climbing skills. The 2-hour session starts promptly with registration at 09.30am (please dont be late) followed by a briefing, safety check of bikes and clothes at 09.45am and coaching from 10.00 in age/ability groups. The session usually finishes at 11.30 with a fun race on our relay-race course.

Course dates:  22nd May,  3rd July,  24th July,  11th September,  23rd October
 

Youth rides

We also organise youth only rides in the Chilterns, Ashridge Forest and Swinley Forest. These are fun rides aimed at allowing our young riders to experience off road riding accompanied by our coaches. Parents are welcome to join these rides. Date and location details are circulated by email and posted on the clubs website forum.

Youth Racing with Summit

Summit Racing runs a five-round youth MTB series for riders aged 10+ as part of a summer evening adult race series held on five Wednesday evenings between May-July. Please see our Racing section for categories, dates and pre-entry details. Our big race of the season is the Regional Youth Championships, Sunday, 26th September sponsored by On 2 Wheels, Bourne End.
