Summit MTB is a registered British Cycling Go Ride club and has achieved Clubmark status. Clubmark is Sport England’s cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections dedicated to encouraging young people to improve their talents.
Riders aged under 16 can either join the club as individuals for a subscription of just £10 or as part of a family membership, with parents/guardians costing £30.
Our main activities for young riders are coaching sessions held one Saturday a month on our XC mountain bike race course in Lotts Wood located here: Click here (Opens in new window).
All we require is riders to be able to ride a mountain bike fitted with off-road tyres and gears. Coaching focuses on helping improve handling, braking and climbing skills. The 2-hour session starts promptly with registration at 09.30am (please don’t be late) followed by a briefing, safety check of bikes and clothes at 09.45am and coaching from 10.00 in age/ability groups. The session finishes with a fun race on our relay-race course as we want to inspire our riders to take up the sport.
In addition to our British Cycling-trained Level 2 coaches we also involve elite riders from the top of our sport in mentoring our young riders. Five-times British MTB champion Jenny Copnall and elite champion Luke Smith regularly attend our Saturday sessions to work with our young riders. The remaining session dates are Saturday, 11th April; 9th May, 6th June, 11th July; 12th September, 17th October and 21st November.
