Forest of Dean Trip 2019

Well, what an amazing weekend! The weather gods were clearly smiling on us and blessed us with dry, dusty trails and lots of lots of HOT sunshine – people said they felt that they were riding in Spain! As usual, we had a super gang of young riders and parents, and this year saw a monumental shift whereby we didn’t need to have speed/ability groups – we were able (mostly) to ride en-mass (thinking carefully of other trail users, of course!). If anything, the adults self-sorted to the (slower/more cautious!) rear of the group! We had the additional company of a four-legged companion, Bolder, this year, and apart from an incident with some deer (!), he acquitted himself perfectly and was a huge hit with everyone. Over the three days, we tackled the usual mixture of Verderers, LaunchPad, Skills Area (don’t watch, parents!) more LaunchPad, more Skills Area…..Verderers again….plus the Freeminers Extension (fun in the dry, not so fun in the wet!). Riding was usually followed by the (surprisingly amicable!) ruleless pool-volleyball and hot tubbing, lots of food (thanks everyone who contributed to and cooked the BBQ), and then twilight games of ‘manhunt’. Everyone agreed the weekend could hardly have been more perfect – will no real injuries (oops, sorry Marcel, and Alex yours was just a comedy face-plant!), and even Tim A didn’t crash his borrowed e-bike!! Roll on next year! (How do we book the same weather, please?!?!?)
